2006-03-08 - 10:12 p.m. another day in the life... Another exhausting day of finishing a proposal, saying goodbye to my lab visitor, working on a proposal, attending a guest talk, grading, and teaching. So I am sitting in K's office room, typing, deterring Mizzy from her gigantic scratching post (she is now sitting magisterially on my Queen Anne writing table), The Two Towers is playing in the background while I turn off my brain for the night, in preparation for the next long day tomorrow. We have to make progress on our new proposal that has to be finished by Monday or so. It is a much more complicated document, mostly because there are five of us at different institutions, each with a slightly different expertise. The total proposal amount will be on the order of $3 million over five years. It will be quite a project. The best news of the day was from an undergraduate in our department who has been offered a fabulous five-year Ph.D. position at a top research university in Florida. If she accepts the position, she will work with two fabulous people - I think this will be a wonderful opportunity for her, and it has made all of the faculty very proud and excited to see such an opportunity for her. I will end on this good note. 7.5 days until K arrives. But who's counting. leave a note
