2007-04-19 - 11:19 a.m. ...the vancouver headache... Spent most of yesterday and this morning with a migraine. I've never really gotten migraines before I moved to Vancouver, but it seems to be associated with the weather. I can think of no other reason why K and I would have mutual and simultaneous headaches... Our tax situation seems more befuddled than ever. We are getting conflicting advice, no matter where we turn. Some of the advice seems like scare tactics - half advice intended to make us uncertain enough that we will have to enroll their services. In any case, it seems that accountants who understand the complications of doing taxes during a moving year are perhaps worth their premium. So we will probably shell out the $1000+ fees to get this done properly. sigh. There's something that just feels wrong in that. In other news, I got back the reviews of my proposal, and they are the best I've ever had. And yet, my funding remains piddly...I begin to understand why people believe that the Canadian funding system needs to be revamped. The socialist notion of giving everyone a little bit doesn't do much to advance those with excellent reviews. But then again, I'll bet that the quality of the reviews is proportional to the availability of funding. In other words, if the funding were more competitive, then it would probably be much more difficult to get favorable reviews. In this instance, the quality of the review really makes little difference. Final bit of news from Mountain U today - we've had a bomb threat. All that is needed in the wake of massacres in Virginia is for some sick soul to ride the wave. leave a note
