...get used to it....

Okay - so it's been a baby gear intensive weekend. The stroller and the car seat came home yesterday (we are not English and therefore are not plagued by the same superstitions that blighty faces. The stroller is sitting in the hallway, waiting for a permanent home).

Today we went out and bought an inexpensive and rather ugly high chair - used - from a very popular and well-respected Italian baby stuff company. Only to discover the truth about used baby stuff....

Babies PEE.

ugh.

We got the high chair home and our noses were confronted with:

THE SMELL.

We were both repulsed. We were both willing to turn our backs on the issue of filling our house with plastic gear, just in the interest of getting something and getting it DONE. But but but...ugh. ewwwww.

Can you get that smell out of PLASTIC?

We've gone from feeling virtuous and proud of our bargain hunting abilities to being two embarrassed and naive adults dealing with a tainted good.

eww eww EWWW.

Okay - perhaps it won't gross me out in a couple of months after the 5000th diaper, but in the meantime, it's SOMEONE ELSE'S KID'S PEE - that they just LEFT in the chair. EEEEWWWW.

I've begun the disinfectant process, and K is investigating whether it is possible to find a replacement cushion in the same "lovely" leatherette fabric. We have this super dooper cat miracle stain remover stuff that is supposed to eliminate cat odors, and I have doused (read: FLOODED) the chair and the leatherette cushion with this miracle spray. It's sitting out on the back porch drying. So far it seems to be working - we will see tomorrow whether or not this was a success or a semi-expensive blunder.

In the meantime, K has his eye on a lovely WOODEN chair that may replace the plastic schmastic leatherette nightmare. Who would have thought that this would become my life....
